Project Description
WMS partnered with Dryside Engineering to deliver the Pallamallawa Northern Levee Second Design Review. The review
included:
- Extension of hydrologic and hydraulic model boundaries to capture hydraulic structures and flow paths to the east of town;
- Modelling of the three WRM recommendations, as well as three additional mitigation options for the flooding in the east side of town;
- One-on-one and public meeting style community consultation;
- Identification of the preferred option(s) for the Northern Levee upgrade and associated works; and
- Production of concept design and cost estimate for the preferred option
Benefit to the client
The successful delivery of the review ensured that the Pallamallawa community had confidence in the project and
modelling methodology, understood the impacts of the different flood mitigation options, is involved in the optioneering process, and is aligned with the preferred option for the Northern Levee; and allowed Council to progress the upgrade of the Pallamallawa Northern Levee to detailed design and seek further grant funding as needed. These outcomes were achieved through the development of an adequate suite of hydrologic and hydraulic models and a community engagement plan that ensured the participation of the community throughout the entire project. The review allowed for the upgrade of the existing Northern Levee to improve the levee’s performance and to mitigate local overland
flow issues.
